Some Christmassy pictures on an incredibly cold day
This was just as the snow was gone, only a little bit remaining on the ground. We went to see things, a house, old cars, lights and green clouds. It was too cold to stay long.

I'm just curious what is "incredibly cold" for you? :)
It's been -20 for more than a week here... Luckily I will soon escape to Europe for NY holidays :)

Haha I bet our "incredibly cold" is nothing compared to Russia! Even my Swedish friends often laugh at how cold we are... This day it was about -5... That's about as cold as it will generally get during the day. Dutch people think this is incredibly cold. Also, as soon as it snows here, everyone panics and doesn't really know what to do. Our winters are just not very wintery.

Going to Europe, cool! Where are you going?

Afraid of snow? haha!
About the journey, that's crazy story: Moscow - Vilnius - Brussel - Amsterdam - Paris - Stockholm. Anything but not to stay in cold Russia :) I always say I was born in the wrong country :)

When there's snow, many people are late to work and there are many traffic jams and car crashes, noone knows how to drive in snow and noone is prepared for it :)

Wow that is some trip! I think you'll like Brussel a lot, I loved it. In Stockholm it's good to have a good map and really research where you want to go, we went just strolling about and only saw lots of appartments :/ Amsterdam is nice too, I hope you'll like it! Amsterdam has some very nice vintage shops and healthy food shops and restaurants, and it's super tiny, you can walk everywhere :) I wish we could meet up but I live very far from Amsterdam :( You make me want to travel, all these amazing countries! :)

In Russia it's usual to put winter tires on in the end of October, since then there's high risk of snow and ice on roads.

Thanks for the tips! I've been to Stockholm several times for business related things (I've just returned from there), but I never had enough time to see it as a tourist... And I'm very exited to see Amsterdam. Friends keep asking me about the weed, omg :/

Haha yes, well, it's famous :D I've seen many tourists white-faced and nauseous in the streets so if you do decide to try this Amsterdam custom, do be careful! ;) There are pretty specific streets that have a lot of shops selling weed (they are called "coffeeshop") so you can pretty easily avoid them if you want to, same goes for the red light district. Amsterdam has a very nice and cosy city center and some really great museums so you can just pick and choose what you want to see.

(There's an exhibition on Russian art by the way, in a museum not in Amsterdam but close to me! If all of a sudden you feel homesick you can go and see Russian art :))

Is that castle Castle Nienoord in Leek? I was there for a wedding a few months back and it looked like this one as well :)

You managed to capture the Christmas feeling perfectly!

It was in fact a Swedish kerstmarkt at Fraelemaborg in Slochteren! They do look alike the two houses though. It was lots of fun, we had waffles and glögg and saw sledding dogs and volvo oldtimers :)

I hope you get some more snow for Christmas! What is that white building on the lake? That photo is very beautiful!

It's just a historical house in a big garden, there are many in the Netherlands. They are houses of either rich families or "gentleman farmers" i.e. families who owned land and had farmers work it for them. They are mansion-like houses sitting in the middle of fields, often with a big garden. This particular house is called Fraeylemaborg and features both a moat and a 19th century landscape-style garden :) The other buildings are old stables, houses for the help, etc.

You gave me a gift! Thank you sooooo much :) I love that you thought of me and gave me a gift, I'm smiling very happily now (and my coworkers look at me weird-like, haha!) I hope you have the best holidays! :)

Ah, it was the least I could do for all the pretty pictures you post amongst other things. You're quite welcome. ♥
