This is where I talk about lolita.
The sad thing, I think, is that all creativity is gone from the lolita scene. Back in the day (*grandpa*) everyone was creative, we were kinda forced to be, because nothing was available and what was available was hella expensive. Even if it resulted in abominations like furry lolita legwarmers, everyone was creatively thinking about how to build an outfit.
Nowadays, everyone buys brand, and is expected to do so. If you can't afford it, there's brands that make exact replica's of brands. And brands that make replicas of replica brand items. We all look like perfect copies of the GLB models (except for some's greasy hair?), wearing the newest brand items in the way brand intended it.
Basically, I think part of the problem is, lolita fashion is fairly limited and extremely formulaic. There are only a few skirt shapes, or sleeve shapes, and there are about four main colours. Actually, sometimes I feel I'm buying the same item over and over. Even the great, new First Ever American Non-Replica Lolita Brand came out with...a cupcake skirt in blackxwhite :(
And if you do something creative, you will just be put into the next box. Deco-loli, otome-kei, pink rose, natural-kei...You're not just being creative with your lolita clothes, you're in an entirely different box by itself. Like, there can be no variations without it needing a definition, label, and separate lj community.
But: I'm glad to say all lolitas on my list are super beautiful & creative, & even though it has its flaws, I still loooooove the lolita movement ('movement' -> we might need a Manifesto soon)
